White Mountains in New Hampshire!

I thoroughly enjoyed sitting out on the porch, listening to the river, and seeing the covered bridge behind me. Littleton, New Hampshire is a very picturesque town!

The White Mountain in New Hampshire are very green and very beautiful! With the rain and snow every year, the many rivers are full and flow all around the area. I thoroughly enjoyed spending 3 days in the northern section of New Hampshire. I loved the covered bridges and the flowers growing everywhere!

Rivers flow everywhere in the White Mountains!
I thought this river that flowed right through Littleton, New Hampshire was wonderful!
I found the Schilling Beer Company had a tasting room and I was able to enjoy one of their products.
True maple syrup is a famous product in the New England area of the US and Canada.
Never did I expect to find a statue of the optomistic Pollyanna! Littleton, New Hampshire is the birthplace of Eleanor H. Porter, the author of Pollyanna.
Flowers, flowers are everywhere in New Hampshire. I love all the vibrant colors!
I found myself captivated by this covered bridge in Littleton, New Hampshire.
It was wonderful to be in New Hampshire on the 4th of July!
Rock walls are common in this part of the country.
This is the Ammonoosuc River and I went on a long bike ride along the river. I rode 20 miles along the bike path and then turned around and rode back to Littleton.
I was smiling as I rode along such beautiful scenes.
The bike path used to be have railroad tracks for the trains to run. It was fund to ride over these bridges designed for trains.
I enjoyed seeing all the different shades of green with the different plants in New Hampshire.
All the water is so different from my experience living so much of my life in Texas and Arizona.
The river keeps flowing along!
All the vibrantly green plants amazed me!
I loved this covered bridge right next to the bike path!

Acadia National Park!

I was very excited to see such a beautiful place!

Yesterday I was finally able to visit Acadia National Park. It was one of my top agenda items for this RV trip. I have heard from several people that it is spectacular, and they were 100% correct. The scenes were amazing. Walking along a path reveals new, gorgeous sites over and over. Imagine hearing the powerful sound of the waves as you look at the photos. The actual park is far superior to these photos, but they give a taste of the beauty of Acadia National Park.

The rocks and the waves were beautiful!

Plymouth, Massachusetts!

It is pretty awesome to stand in front of the Mayflower II!
An amazing story began after the Pilgrims landed in 1620!
This is the Plymouth Rock!! Incredible history occurred here!

I had a fantastic time visiting Plymouth, Massachusetts. I was amazed to stand on the location where the Pilgrims landed. As I stood on the shore, I kept thinking about all the downstream consequences that results from the arrival of the Pilgrims in Plymouth.

I liked this artwork!

Plymouth rock was highlighted under a nice cover. That rock was nothing fancy, but at the same time, it changed everything. Very interesting to think about.

There was the Mayflower II in harbor that was interesting to see too.

The Mayflower II is a majestic ship!

Amazing history in this town!

After seeing Plymouth, I dove out to Cape Cod and then around to Cape Cod National Seashore. Cape Cod was much larger than I anticipated. It took quite a while to cross the bridge and then work my way along the peninsula.

Interesting comment about finding your park.

Rhode Island!

During my bike ride, there were a series of businesses right next to the bike path. I stopped and had a fantastic salad midway through my ride. I absolutely loved the food!

This was a beautiful bike path that was paved for the entire way.

I had a fantastic day in Rhode Island. I found a bike path that was created on an old railroad track. It was the William C. O’Neill South County Bike Path in Kingston, Rhode Island. I have ridden on other railroad tracks that have been converted into bike paths and absolutely loved the trails.

To my surprise, this bike path in Rhode Island was completely paved for the entire 7.2 miles. It was very smooth, beautiful, and a fantastic way to enjoy a beautiful day!

There were nice water scenes to enjoy along the way.
I enjoyed seeing water.
I am not sure the name of this flower, but it grew in many places along the ride. I love the deep orange colors.
This zany sculpture was right next to the trail.
I thought this was a spectacular discovery. Someone put together eggs for sale. Please return the cartons. Place your money in the metal box below.
I liked this contraption to move the chicken enclosure. Bicycle steering in the front and bike tires in the back. When I walked near it, all the chickens came running up to me all excited.
At first, I scared this cute fellow. He withdrew his head and legs and arms into his shell. After a few minutes, he ventured out to look around.
Many of the home along my bike ride had spectacular flowers growing in their yards. I loved all the colors!
One of the well-know microbreweries in Rhode Island is Whalers Brewing Company. Their brewery is right next to the bike path! I tried to stop in to sample their products, but they do not open until 4 pm, so I missed my opportunity to taste their beer.
I stopped by the University of Rhode Island on my bike ride. The have one of the smallest college football stadiums I have ever seen.
Here is my camping spot tonight. I love all the trees and cool shade.
This is the first RV park where they had an amazing slide for everyone to enjoy!

Mystic, Connecticut!

Guiding the Morgan was fun!!
The ships at the Mystic Seaport Museum were impressive!

I have really enjoyed visiting Connecticut. A highlight was going to the Mystic Seaport Museum. They had some historic ships to see as well as a number of demonstrations. It was quite interesting.

I learned about catching lobsters in these old wooden containers.
A classic Connecticut view of the coast!
I loved these classic ships!
These teenagers were at the museum attending a camp to teach them how to sail a boat.
I learned about making barrels in order to carry things on the ship. The large barrel in the back was for carrying whale oil.
The fire-fighting boat was interesting.
I enjoyed climbing all over this ship. Below deck, it was not possible to stand upright. The sleeping spaces were quite cozy (i.e. very small).
One of the most interesting areas was learning about the carvings placed in the front of the ship. Very fascinating.
I highly recommend the Mystic Seaport Museum!
I thought this was a great name for a tavern on the coast!
It was absolutely hilarious to watch these kids try and raise this sail!
What a beautiful home across the water from the museum!

New York City!!

This charging bull is famous! Finally I was able to touch the bull in person! Go stock market go!!
A special attribute of America is the ease with which we can become part-owners of companies. Truly powerful and truly amazing wealth building in a capitalistic society.

I had a fantastic time in New York City! It has been years and years since I have visited. The 9/11 museum was not open the last time I was there.

These roads are known around the world!

I started my visit by seeing the Charging Bull and the New York Stock Exchange. I am so grateful that we live in a capitalistic society. Capitalism is not always pretty, but it sure beats the alternatives.

This cute statue has some controversy. My understanding is that she used to be placed in front of the Charging Bull. Now she stands in Front of the New York Stock Exchange. She seems defiant to me. She may benefit beginning to buy shares in a broad index of companies. Who am I to say? Just a suggestion.
I am not sure why I took this photo? Maybe because stocks do not always go up? Maybe because there can sometimes be ugly downsides to company ownership? During bad times, poop can fly everywhere and adversely impact many people.
The September 11th memorial museum is outstanding. It is very well done!

Next, I visited the 9/11 museum. This has always been a very tender time for me. My father died on September 4, 2011. We had his funeral the following weekend and then the 9/11 terrorist attacks occurred right after the funeral. The combination of those two events has always been difficult for me.

I liked this statement!
Large sections of the memorial did not allow photography. This image shows the massive destruction with the collapse of the towers.
I liked the symmetry of the 9 and 11 in Roman numerals.

I really enjoyed walking through the 9/11 museum. The people who put the contents together really deserve high praise. It is very well done. It is respectful to all the people who died, and yet is it very factual describing what happened. I encourage everyone to see it. It brought back many memories.

A structure of the towers that is frequently recognized.
Outside, the are the “inverse” towers with the names of people who died during the attacks.

Next, I rode a ferry out to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. I learned that both Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty are actually in New Jersey and not New York state.

The Statute of Liberty is such a iconic image of America!
It never gets old to enjoy the Statue of Liberty!

Majestic buildings! The new tower is visible in this photo.
The famous Empire State Building is in the background of this photo.
Famous Ellis Island that has welcomed and processed so many immigrants.
This is an iconic photo of New York City from the Hudson.
Old and new building describe the matrix of New York City architecture.

Atlantic City, New Jersey!

Gorgeous beaches on a lovely cool morning! What a spectacular day!
The dunes near the beach were nice.

I love going on RV trips! There are so many things to see and places to discover. After entering New Jersey, I decided to visit Atlantic City. Gambling is not my thing, but the casinos and beaches in Atlantic City are quite famous.

Overcast skies made walking on the beach very comfortable.

The beaches here are beautiful. Many houses and apartments are located near the beach. I started my day early, so the locals were just starting their days too. The beaches will get much busier as it warms up during the afternoon.

This is the famous Atlantic City boardwalk! Casinos in the background and the beach on the other side of the boardwalk. It was a wonderful time to enjoy the outdoors!

Today’s weather was nice and cool. There was intermittent rain in the morning and overcast skies. Since Arizona and Texas are mostly blistering hot in June, it is absolutely wonderful to enjoy cool breezes and light rain this time of year! I woke up loving the cool breezes blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean!

Normally, I tend to eat foods low in fat and high in fiber. However, lunch today was a notable exception. I asked some locals what they thought was the best quality restaurant in the area. While waiting outside the restaurant, I asked some people who spent the summer here what was their favorite item on the menu. They enthusiastically recommended the “baked crab imperial.” So, that is what I ordered and I was not disappointed! It was one of the best meals I have enjoyed in a very long time!

I Love Chocolate!!

My favorite chocolate!!
These friendly guys greet you at Hershey’s Chocolate World!!
I think it would be awesome to drive the Kissmobile!

I had an incredibly fun day today! I started by driving to Hershey, Pennsylvania to the Hershey’s Chocolate World! Would you believe that I was the very first person to arrive in the parking lot! I had a tour scheduled for 9:00 am, as soon as the doors opened, so I did not want to miss it. I arrived early and walked around the outside of the building. I had a great deal of fun taking pictures with different company products. It was clear to me how successful they have been with their products.

Chocolate kisses are one of my favorite chocolates!

It cannot possible be more wonderful than a Reese’s peanut butter cup!

I really enjoy Hershey’s milk chocolate. I have been to Belgium and eaten Belgium chocolate. It is famous and it is excellent chocolate. I have been to Switzerland and eaten Swiss chocolate. It is fantastic and I love it! I have also been to Germany and eaten German chocolate. It is wonderful and I love their chocolate. However, I have always said that my favorite is Hershey’s milk chocolate. The are all good, but there is something special that I have always loved about Hershey’s milk chocolate. It is my favorite!

Always a popular item!

Jolly Ranchers are a classic item!

It was extra fun going on a tour of Hershey’s chocolate and looking in their shop at all the different products for sale. Samples were not available, but it was wonderful to see all the chocolate items available!

Chocolatetown is a memorable place to visit!

These guys never stop smiling!

After purchasing Hershey’s products, I drove 27 miles to Wilbur Chocolate in Lititz, Pennsylvania. I met several people at the local Elks lodge, and they were quite confident that Wilbur chocolate was superior to Hershey’s chocolate. I had never heard of Wilbur chocolate, so I received a helpful education about the company. The people I was talking with thought that Hershey’s chocolate was fantastic and that it was a huge, successful company. However, they thought that Wilbur was the better quality chocolate. Their website is:

https://www.wilburbuds.com/

Yeah for Wilbur Chocolate!

For very good reason, Wilbur Chocolate is a highly regarded name by the locals. They make wonderful chocolate!!

My understanding is the Wilbur chocolate buds (sort of like a flat Hershey’s chocolate kiss) are one of the items they are most know for. Wilbur buds existed before Hershey’s kisses were created. Also, their chocolate covered malt balls are supposed to be fantastic. I looked at many of the products available and felt like I needed to buy several of the items to try them out. Their milk chocolate and peanut butter cup was absolutely outstanding! I also talked with Wilbur chocolate about how to ship delicate chocolate to hot climates like the deserts of Arizona. My taste buds loved the opportunity to enjoy various chocolate delicacies today!

Wilbur chocolate is outstanding!!

I can personally testify that Wilbur milk chocolate covered malted milk balls are outstanding!

Gettysburg National Military Park!

This is an historic treasure! I highly recommend a visit to anyone!

Abe and I became great friends on this visit!

Wow! It was amazing to see the Gettysburg National Military Park. I had heard from several people how powerful it was to go through the exhibits and visit the battlefields. I bought a ticket to do everything. I watched the movie, viewed the circular painting of the battle, and went on the bus tour with a guide reviewing the three day battle.

Everywhere you turn there are monuments.
This is our guide showing us the pivotal battle on the third day that was key for the union to win.

My tour guide spent 30 years in the army special forces, so he especially enjoyed telling us about the respective army strategies and high terrain and it implications. I spent more than 7 hours going through everything and I think I only touched the surface of what is there.

The Union had the high ground and that was very important!
Some of the sculptures were quite impressive.

I highly recommend a visit!!

President Lincoln showed tremendous leadership!
Although a brief speech, it is incredibly powerful and famous!!

Lancaster, Pennsylvania!!

A common mode of transportation is this part of the country!

I really enjoyed seeing Lancaster, PA today. This is where Neil grew up, so it was extra special to explore the area. The area is beautiful with rich farmland. The Amish community gives the area a very nice flavor. It also is rich in history.

I really liked this sign in one of the Amish shops. Yes, life is a series of new beginnings!

Interesting history of the area.

In the afternoon I shopped in Amish stores in the towns of Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania and Intercourse, Pennsylvania. Two very unusual town names. The Amish had quilt stores, baked goods, desserts, and all kinds of craftworks. I did not buy anything but a snack, but it was very fun to walk through all the shops.

Sculpture in downtown Lancaster, PA.

I love all the green rolling hills. The streets are often narrow and wind up and down and left and right. I am staying in nearby Ephrata, PA. The GPS took me down a road where I was supposed to cross covered bridge over a river. The problem was that there was a huge sign that said the bridge is 10 feet 6 inches and the motorhome is 11 feet 3 inches tall. Rather than crash into the bridge, I spontaneously turned left and hoped to find another way over the river. Fortunately, I connected to another road that had an uncovered bridge and I was able to cross the river. I love GPS systems, but sometimes they drive me crazy. Thank goodness I saw the sign and could reroute myself!

Bird-in-Hand farmers market was great to see!!

Not a town name you see too often.

I am really enjoying the weather here. The high is 76 degrees and the low is 53 degrees. No air conditioning needed. No heater needed. Great temperatures to enjoy being a tourist!

This is my nice and cool camping spot in Ephrata, Pennsylvania!
