We started our day by driving to western Crete and visiting two different communities, Rethymnon and Chania. These were smaller towns on the coast of Crete. These are classical instruments in Crete!!This is the stature that mourned the loss of people after an armed conflict.Colorful fruit is certainly abundant in Crete!!All kinds of fish are readily available since this is a coastal town.Churches are colorful in Crete, but they do not have blue domes.I love the fruit in Crete!!I liked the bell tower on this church!!I really liked how colorfully this bicycle was decorated!!These pomegranates sure look healthy!!
Many people sure like “shopping therapy!!”I loved all the colors with these pots and plates!!This lighthouse was very picturesque!!A nice open square with the church!!It amazes me how these guys stand so perfectly still and attract so much attention!!The shops along the water reminded me of Italy!!Western Crete is so beautiful!!I thought this lighthouse was impressive!!This is a beautiful place to walk along the edge of the water!!This young girl was having a great time riding in this carriage!!These natural sponges were interesting!!This wall along the water’s edge was impressive!!The deep aqua blue water on the edge of Crete is simply stunning!!It was fun to walk along this wall that protected the harbor!!This guy was an extremely talented guitar player!!I loved watching all the activity around this lighthouse!!For dinner, we were served Raki (also called Tsikoudia). This is a common alcoholic drink in western Crete. It is like Ouzo, but without the licorice flavor. We loaded onto a ferry for our all night trip back to Athens. The ferry will begin at 9 pm and will arrive in Athens at 6:30 am. This will be the first time I have ever slept on a boat!!This is the desk in my ferry room. This is my bathroom on the ferry!!This is my shower. It was wonderful to take a shower and wash off all my sunscreen and sweat after walking all over western Crete!!My ferry window is not too clear, but I look out onto the front of the ferry!! This is going to be an exciting night!!
